Course Title: Korean Language in Culture and Society

Course Description: Contrastive analysis of the Korean language in culture and society, examining sociolinguistic phenomena in contemporary Korea. Topics include Confucianism and honorifics, language changes, gender differences, generation differences, linguistic identities, North and South Korean languages, and Korean contacts with other languages such as Chinese, Japanese and English. Taught in English and Korean.
