Course Title: Families in Historical Perspective

Course Description: Family forms and socio-economic change in Europe and the United States. Gender, childhood, courtship, sexual relations, marriage, divorce, childbearing, and old age in peasant, industrial, and postindustrial society. War, welfare state, and the family. The marginalized: vagrants, foundlings, immigrants, and single mothers.
